You Beauty

With so many different beauty treatments out there, it’s easy to get confused by what does what and when and for who and why. We put our skin to the test with four little-known beauty treatments: Keratin Lash Elevate, Dual Exfoliation Peel, HydraFacial MD and Dermapen.

Exfoliation Transformation

My face has been feeling tight and dry from the summer heat. The pores around my nose and cheeks are feeling congested and the face oil I regularly apply hasn’t been delivering the same sun-kissed glow. It’s time for some skin nourishment.

I’ve always been a little hesitant when it comes to microdermabrasion and chemical peels until I heard about Aveda’s plant-powered alternatives to these treatments.

I’ve booked in for an Aveda Dual Exfoliation Peel at Sulis in NSW’s Byron Bay. In the beautiful studio, I meet Emelia who offers me a warming ginger tea. She takes me to the treatment room and I admire the soothing warm light and cool room.

First, Emelia assesses my skin before sharing how the Dual Exfoliation Peel works. The peel, she explains, is Aveda’s latest advancement in non-invasive, skin-renewing treatments. It works by fusing naturally derived mechanical and biochemical exfoliation methods to transform and rejuvenate the skin. As Emelia speaks, I close my eyes and drift into a relaxed state, enjoying the feeling of her soft hands on my skin. After a few rounds of cleansing and toning, it’s time for the exfoliation. Deeply and gently, she purifies the pores around my T-section. I can almost feel the layers of dry and dead skin being flaked from my face. Next comes a silky mask and then some moisturising.

Afterwards, I look into the mirror. Immediately, I can see the results. My skin texture is smoother, my complexion more even and my pores more refined. Looking back at me, I see a fresh-skinned, younger version of myself, smiling in radiance. Never will I underestimate the power of exfoliation.
